It is not a character reference and it is emphatically not a promise that someone is safe. We will never imply otherwise, because that implication gets people hurt.

No. Every verification is optional and member-controlled. You choose what to verify and who sees it. You can also filter to see only members who've verified particular things — that choice runs both ways.

Core membership is free, supported by clearly-labelled sponsorships from brands in broad categories like dining and travel. Some verifications carry the provider's own cost. We'll always show you the price before anything is charged.
